Lapwai, Idaho June 28, 2023 – Love and inclusivity were celebrated on a warm Wednesday afternoon in the Lapwai City Park on the Nez Perce Indian Reservation. The third annual Pride event was sponsored by Nimiipuu Health along with collaborations from Chroma LCV, PFLAG Clarkston, Celebrate Love LCV, Art Uncorked Downtown, and Tabikat Productions.

The event kicked off with a Pride Parade on the Main Street of Lapwai filled with members of the community and surrounding communities. Nez Perce Tribal member, Kellen Trenal entertained the crowd on the microphone as this year’s MC. This event holds a safe space for members of the community to share their experiences and stories. There were multiple speakers who shared heartfelt words of encouragement as well as a Drag performance by Indigenous 2-Spirit Drag Queen Cherri Bepsi.

This year’s theme was pelqeyiin waq’iiswitin kaa kiceysiimey which translates in the Nimipuutimt, the Nez Perce Language “two-spirited and confident/proud.”

June is Pride Month and a joyful celebration of all the beautiful identities of the LGBTQ2S+ Community.
